Who we are

from our founder Laura

Papalla Nuna was born from a deep passion for sharing the artistry and heritage of small artisans from around the world with the British public.
The name Papalla Nuna is inspired by a blend of languages: farfalla (Italian) and papillon (French) for “butterfly,” and nuna, meaning “soul” in Quechua. Together, they reflect the idea of a butterfly soul, free-spirited, curious, and ever drawn to beauty in all its forms.

The name also carries a personal story. A dear friend once called me Mariposa del Sur, “Butterfly of the South”, a nickname that felt perfectly fitting during a time in my life when I was travelling widely and discovering the beauty of different cultures, languages, and art forms. That sense of curiosity, joy, and openness to the world still guides everything Papalla Nuna stands for today.

Even the sound of the name (leaning into the German Papperlapapp) captures a touch of playful whimsy, a reminder not to take life too seriously, and to always leave room for creativity, colour, and imagination.

Our Artisan Collection

We take pride in offering a curated selection of artisan-made goods that embody both quality and cultural significance. One of our signature products is our range of luxurious alpaca wool ponchos, handmade by skilled artisans in Ecuador. Each piece is crafted with care using traditional techniques and showcases the exceptional softness, warmth, and durability of alpaca wool, a sustainable and ethically sourced material.

Alongside our ponchos, we collaborate with talented artisans to bring you:

  • Handwoven scarves and shawls

  • Sustainable accessories

  • Decorative homeware

  • Ethically made jewellery

Each item tells a story of heritage and craftsmanship, bridging the gap between global traditions and the British love for unique, high-quality design.

Papalla Nuna Events: The Beginning of a Creative Journey

As Papalla Nuna’s mission grew, so did the desire to bring artisans and communities together in person. When I was joined by my partner in life and business, Daniel, that vision took shape as Papalla Nuna Events, a celebration of handmade artistry and entrepreneurship through craft fairs and creative workshops.

What began as a passion for sharing the stories of independent makers evolved into creating spaces where those makers could showcase their work, share their skills, and connect directly with the people who appreciate them most.

Since 2024, our events have filled The Forum in Norwich with colour, creativity, and community spirit, bringing together artisans, families, and craft lovers to celebrate the beauty of making things by hand.

A New Chapter: Fine City Events

To reflect our growth and honour our beginnings in Norwich, A Fine City, our events are now continuing under a new name: Fine City Events.
This evolution allows us to keep celebrating creativity and craftsmanship while expanding our reach to even more local makers, performers, and creative communities.

While Papalla Nuna continues as a retail brand, supporting independent artisans from around the world, Fine City Events carries forward the same values, connection, creativity, and community, through markets, workshops, and immersive experiences across Norwich and beyond.

Our Mission

At Papalla Nuna, we believe in the power of handmade goods to inspire, connect, and enrich lives. Whether you’re shopping for a one-of-a-kind gift or attending a workshop through Fine City Events, you’ll find the same dedication to quality, tradition, and meaningful creativity.

Join us in supporting global artisans, celebrating local talent, and keeping the spirit of craftsmanship alive, from Ecuador to Norwich, and everywhere creativity flourishes.
